Portrait of two nicely dressed young men in overcoats and hats. Seemingly teenage children of the working class. One boy has his hand on the other's shoulder, and the other boy has his hand on the other's leg. This display of affection could signify their bond as close friends, brothers, etc. Men and boys in the 19th century frequently had close friendships, and the physical contact in the photograph could signify camaraderie or a sense of mutual support. With antique photos one can only use their imagination to weave a narrative surrounding the image captured. And one of these scenarios seems possible but the truth rests with the individuals and we will never truly know.
